Position Summary
The Director of Clinical Programming (DCP) provides academic leadership, strategic oversight, and administrative management for the clinical phase of the Weill Cornell Medicine Master of Science in Health Sciences for Physician Assistants Program. The DCP is responsible for ensuring the quality, effectiveness, compliance, and capacity of clinical education experiences while supporting student success, accreditation readiness, and program outcomes.
The DCP serves as the academic and operational leader of clinical education and is responsible for developing, recruiting, retaining, and evaluating clinical education sites and preceptors to ensure adequate clinical placement capacity and high-quality learning experiences. The DCP collaborates with program leadership, faculty, staff, clinical affiliates, and institutional stakeholders to maintain excellence in clinical training and support continuous program improvement, student progression oversight, accreditation activities, faculty collaboration, clinical education quality assurance, teaching, advising, and participation in program governance.
Reporting to the Program Director, the Director of Clinical Programming provides leadership and oversight of the clinical phase of the curriculum and participates in all phases of the PA Program, including preclinical, clinical, and research education.
The Director collaborates closely with the Clinical Lead and Clinical Support Coordinator to ensure alignment of educational objectives, clinical placement capacity, operational workflows, and student learning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight of the clinical phase of the PA curriculum.
- Lead the development, recruitment, retention, and evaluation of clinical education sites and preceptors to ensure sufficient clinical placement capacity.
- Establish, cultivate, and maintain relationships with clinical affiliates, healthcare organizations, preceptors, and community partners.
Monitor clinical placement capacity and proactively identify and develop new clinical education sites to support program sustainability and growth. - Monitor the quality and effectiveness of clinical education experiences.
- Provide oversight of clinical placement strategy and clinical education operations.
- Support student progression, professional development, and clinical success initiatives.
- Participate in remediation, academic progression review, and student performance discussions.
- Teach in preclinical and clinical curriculum phases as assigned.
- Serve as course coordinator for assigned courses as designated.
- Participate in grading and evaluation of student performance.
- Conduct targeted clinical site visits related to educational quality, student performance concerns, site development, or accreditation needs.
- Contribute to ARC-PA accreditation activities, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance to clinical education personnel.
- Serve on program committees and faculty governance bodies.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in admissions, recruitment, and student selection activities.
- Engage in scholarly activity, faculty development, and institutional initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Registrar, Student Affairs, and institutional leadership regarding clinical education matters.
- Support strategic planning and program development initiatives.
- Promote effective communication between faculty, staff, students, and clinical partners.
- Maintain accessibility to students and clinical affiliates as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program goals and accreditation standards.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Master’s Degree (Doctorate preferred) – candidates without a terminal degree are expected to pursue doctoral studies within one year of hiring
5+ years as a clinically practicing PA and 5+ years in PA education - Prior research (Quantitative and Qualitative) experience desired
- NCCPA Certification and NY State Physician Assistant license (or eligible)
- Ability to travel for clinical site visits and regional/national meetings
- Excellent interpersonal, critical thinking, and organizational skills with strong written and verbal communication
Hiring Range
The position may be appointed at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level, with salary commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The salary ranges are:
Instructor: $130,000 - $150,000
Assistant Professor: $150,000 - $170,000
