Description

Gettysburg College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Health Sciences Department beginning August 2027. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in exercise physiology, with an emphasis on scientific principles of strength and conditioning. The teaching load for this position will be five courses (or the laboratory equivalent) per year, and the successful candidate will be responsible for sustaining a dynamic research program, advising health sciences majors, and actively participating in the governance of the department and college. This faculty member will also have the exciting opportunity to lead our efforts in becoming an accredited program through the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE) to prepare students to become certified as strength and conditioning specialists.

Requirements

Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. (or be ABD) in exercise physiology or a closely related discipline and must currently hold a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification or have acquired certification prior to start date. Preference will be given to candidates with prior undergraduate teaching experience, particularly experience teaching lecture and laboratory courses in the scientific principles of strength and conditioning, and a demonstrated commitment to effective and student-centered pedagogy. A research program is required, with a strong preference for scholarship centered on strength and conditioning.
