Toole Design is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our growing team in Pittsburgh, PA. We're seeking someone ready to lead transportation projects, take ownership, and guide project delivery in line with our mission and values.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you'll lead transportation projects from concept through construction, working closely with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality, multimodal solutions. You'll play a key role in guiding design, mentoring staff, and ensuring projects move forward efficiently and effectively.
In this role, you will:
- Lead transportation projects from concept through construction
- Guide civil design teams on safety improvements, multimodal expansions, and major capital projects
- Collaborate with clients and interdisciplinary teams
- Mentor junior staff and support team development
- Lead client meetings and manage project communication
- Solve complex challenges with practical, buildable solutions
- Support business development across Pennsylvania
- Grow as a trusted technical expert

We are targeting a salary range of $126,000 to $143,000 for this position. Candidates with exceptional qualifications who exceed the required experience may qualify for additional compensation.

Requirements
- Pennsylvania Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within six months
- 10+ years of complex civil/transportation project management experience
- Proven leadership of multi-discipline infrastructure design and construction teams
- Strong networks and relationships in the Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania transportation market, including existing clients with the DOT, municipalities, and other consulting firms
- Proficiency in MicroStation OpenRoads
- Bonus: PennDOT project delivery experience, including ECMS
- Bonus: Experience collaborating on multidisciplinary projects (utilities, ROW, lighting, signals, landscape/hardscape)
- Bonus: Design and project management experience in multimodal and roadway projects, including presentations and pursuit interviews Bonus: Business development experience, including networking at industry and agency events (e.g., ASHE, ASCE, ITE)
