Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Manager/Head Grower to lead all aspects of our nursery operations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep enthusiasm for nurturing trees through every stage of their life cycle, from the first planting of liners to their eventual harvest, ensuring each specimen reaches its full potential. This role is essential to maintaining our legacy of quality and service
Key Responsibilities
Oversee liner planting, cultivation, maintenance, and digging operations of a wide variety of trees and shrubs
Ensure optimal plant health through proper irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and pruning.
Ensure all plants meet quality standards for health, appearance, and marketability.
Manage plant inventory and coordinate ordering of nursery supplies.
Oversee inbound and outbound material handling, including loading and unloading.
Schedule and delegate tasks to ensure efficient operations.
Supervise, train, and create a culture where nursery staff are motivated to perform at a high level of safety and production.
Maintain nursery infrastructure, including cold houses and irrigation systems.
Perform basic mechanical repairs and ensure all equipment and systems are operational.
Assist with customer loading and provide guidance to nursery crew.
Support sales efforts and foster strong client relationships.
Implement environmentally sustainable practices.
Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in nursery management, horticulture, or a related field.
Proven leadership and team management skills.
Strong knowledge of liner planting and digging operations, nursery maintenance to include implementing IPM pest/disease management program.
Strong knowledge of irrigation systems and the operation and maintenance of nursery equipment.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Skilled in the operation of nursery equipment, including tractors, loaders, sprayers, and other machinery used in tree production.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks (lifting up to 80 lbs, bending, standing for extended periods).
Degree or certification in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field preferred but not required.
Passion for sustainable farming and plant care.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is an added benefit.
Valid Driver's License
Preferred Skills
Experience with sustainable farming practices.
Familiarity with local plant varieties and growing conditions.
Basic financial acumen for budgeting and crew management.
Customer service experience in a retail or wholesale nursery setting.
Work Week Schedule:
Days: Monday through Friday Hours: 7am- 5pm
