Job overview:
We are seeking a skilled and innovative chemist specializing in reactive compounds for the ammunition industry. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the development, testing, and optimization of materials that are used in ammunition components, focusing on ensuring safety, performance, and regulatory compliance. This position offers the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge field, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to create next-generation ammunition products.
Key Responsibilities:
Accountable for the research, design, and optimization of reactive materials used in ammunition, including explosives, propellants, primers, and other energetics.
Knowledge and interest in the development of energetic compounds used in ammunition.
Collaborate with engineers to develop novel energetic compounds with specific energy release characteristics.
Material Testing & Analysis:
Evaluate safety protocols for handling, storage, manufacturing, and transportation of reactive compounds.
Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices as applicable.
Quality Control & Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure that all materials meet industry standards and comply with regulatory requirements such as ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives), DOT (Department of Transportation), DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) and international safety regulations.
Collaborate with quality control teams to establish and refine testing protocols for new and existing materials.
Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
Process Optimization:
Troubleshoot and provide solutions for challenges encountered in the production or performance of reactive compounds.
Responsible for communicating business-related issues or opportunities to next management level
Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare detailed reports, technical documentation, and safety data sheets (SDS) for new and existing reactive compounds.
Document experimental results, analysis, and insights for internal and external stakeholders, including compliance agencies.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Support:
Collaborate with quality control teams to establish and refine testing protocols for new and existing materials.
Miscellaneous:
Continuously strive for excellence
Perform other duties assigned by Director of Bullet Development
Education:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field in Sciences with at least 5 years of experience is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
Experience & Skills:
Understanding of material properties, safety protocols, and environmental factors affecting reactive materials.
Capacity to work independently and meet aggressive metric-driven timelines is required.
Ability to work in a team-based environment with excellent interpersonal skills is required.
Must demonstrate working knowledge of scientific principles with the ability to learn new technologies.
Experience with loading ammunition and firearms
Familiarity with manufacturing processes, weapons and energetic materials.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong attention to detail.
Ability to work in safety-sensitive environments and adhere to industry standards.
Certifications (preferred):
Training or certifications related to hazardous materials handling, explosives safety, or ammunition manufacturing.
Working Conditions:
Office and manufacturing environment with potential for fieldwork in testing ranges
Ability to handle hazardous and reactive materials safely.
Occasional travel for field testing, customer support, and industry events.
Ability to work in a high-security environment with adherence to strict confidentiality protocols
